Joey Jeetun was born in London, England on the 16th of July 1977. He grew up in both East and South London with is mother and brother. His mother is from the tropical island of Mauritius.
He first realised he wanted to be an actor when he was on stage at the tender age of ten. He says: “I just loved performing. I remember coming off stage and my head teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I didn’t need to think. I said an actor.”
He then performed at the age of eleven to a paying audience at the Bob Hope Theatre. Joey was heavily involved in drama workshops and various young people’s acting clubs. He later became a member of the Royal Court Young people’s Theatre, where he performed in various theatre projects.
After joining the Sylvia Young acting agency, he honed his skills further when he won a place at the BRIT Performing Arts School, London. The school, equivalent of the New York Fame School, helped nurture Joey’s talent. He says: “It was great, but hard work. We did so much. I learnt so many styles of acting as well as dance and movement. The main thing I learnt though, was that you cannot teach some one acting, but that you have to discover the craft for yourself.”
Joey completed successfully a BA (Hons) 2:1 degree in Media performance (acting for camera). After a small spell as a celebrity journalist for various publications, Joey began his professional career as an actor.
